This offseason has been a frustrating one for Italian side Napoli, who have seen how all their targets for the summer have taken different paths. James Rodriguez will reportedly stay with Real Madrid, Nicolas Pepe is going to Arsenal and Mauro Icardi is going somewhere else but Naples.
Yet, the Neapolitans remain reluctant to let this summer go without making any big signing, and they have placed their attention on a different player, one who is surprising for everybody. Reports from England suggest that the Parthenoppeans are set to place a bid for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
After Arsenal’s attempt to sign Zaha didn’t come to fruition, they decided to pursue Nicolas Pepe, who was Napoli’s top target. Now, these stories have merged and we can see some kind of indirect swap between the Gunners and the Blues.
According to the Daily Mail, Carlo Ancelotti is weighing a move for the Ivorian winger, who doesn’t see with bad eyes going play overseas. Zaha has told the Eagles he wants to leave as he intends to play Champions League football, something that Napoli can provide.
Besides the Gunners, Everton were thought to be the frontrunners to get Wilfried’s signature, but now with Napoli interested in the 26-year-old, things might look different.
Zaha has been improving his level in the last couple of seasons, and last campaign he was the biggest figure of his team alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who made his way to Manchester United earlier this summer.
After missing out on the chance to land Nicolas Pepe, Zaha looks like a very good option for the Italians, who are keen to land big names this summer trying to dethrone Juventus.
