Carmelo Anthony is trying to find his way back to the NBA this offseason. He was cut by the Houston Rockets at the end of 2018 after having played only 10 games with the Texans. Now, some sort of debate has been created about whether or not Melo deserves another chance in the association.
He recently spoke with Stephen A. Smith and stated he believed he still could play in the league despite the fact that he hasn’t received offers from any team. During the interview, Melo revealed that he reached several teams this offseason, including the Los Angeles Lakers, where his long-time friend LeBron James currently plays.
But, it looks like his friendship with LeBron is not the only thing that can help Melo land in Southern California this summer. He’s been spotted working out with another Laker, Kyle Kuzma, who decided to make the case for Anthony to play either with the Lakers or any other team in the association.
“Melo is easily better than half the league right now,” Kuzma told Arash Markazi of The Los Angeles Times. “There’s no question about it. He should be on a team right now. He’s still one of the best players. The slander people throw at him is something I don’t really understand. Maybe that’s just the way today’s society is right now.
“It would be great to see him in L.A., but I don’t make those decisions. That’s up to Rob [Pelinka] to make those decisions as far as what he thinks is best for the Lakers. He’s done a great job so far putting this team together.”
To say that Melo is better than ‘half’ the league is a bold statement to make for Kuzma. Anthony is not the same guy he used to be, and even if he was, his style of play wouldn’t fit very well with this Lakers.
Nevertheless, the former Knicks and Nuggets star admitted that he accepted the fact that he will be more helpful if he comes off the bench, but that won’t necessarily happen with the Purple and Gold. Still, Kuzma had nothing but good words towards the veteran:
“It’s been amazing working with Carmelo,” Kuzma said. “He’s one of the greatest players of all time and one of the best scorers of all time. Getting to learn little things from him that will hopefully help my game will be big for me this season.”

We have to wait and see how things develop for Anthony the rest of the offseason. He won’t play with the Lakers although they have one roster spot left to fill; they simply don’t think of the forward to cover it. He can help any other team as long as he accepts a minor role, but we’ll see if some franchises consider him.
