Real Madrid are not finished bringing new players this summer, despite having already spent over €300 million in transfers. Now Los Blancos are focused on landing a midfielder, but nobody is sure who they’ll get in the end. They have been linked with plenty of midfielders over the summer, but their top priority has been Paul Pogba.
Nevertheless, in recent hours Donny van de Beek was identified as Madrid’s new priority over Pogba, but things aren’t necessarily like that for Los Blancos. In fact, Marca claimed the club’s pursuit of van de Beek doesn’t change anything on Pogba; it’s well known that Pogba is Zinedine Zidane’s top target this offseason and the club is working on ways to strike a deal for the World Cup winner.
Furthermore, Sport reported that Madrid will try to sign both Pogba and van de Beek, but that will depend on Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez’s departure from the club. It’s thought that Madrid will try to use Bale as part of a swap deal for Pogba, hoping for the best. Manchester United have been linked with a move for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Bruno Fernandes, but that doesn’t mean they will part with the Frenchman just like that.
As for James, things are not that clear; the Colombian playmaker was linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and Napoli, but so far nothing has happened with him.
Sport suggested that Madrid would bring van de Beek to put pressure on Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, who haven’t had the best performances this preseason. Moreover, they say the club is keen to bring two midfielders, and, if the Pogba deal doesn’t come through, Christian Eriksen would be the alternative to the Frenchman.
