Despite the acquisition of Kemba Walker, the Boston Celtics are (in most folks’ minds) still behind the Sixers and Bucks in the Eastern Conference. The losses of Kyrie Irving and Al Horford, the injury to Gordon Hayward, and the strength of their opposition has created a challenging situation for Boston.

Fortunately, they have more than enough assets to move the ball in their favor, and Washington could provide the answer they’re looking for. In a story by Dan Devine of The Ringer, the Celtics are keeping an eye on Wizards All-Star Bradley Beal as the 26-year-old forward decides on his future with the team.

The Celtics reportedly viewed Beal as a target if they lost Kyrie Irving in free agency, but that was before they landed Walker; would Danny Ainge view Beal as enough of an upgrade on the status quo to offer up something like Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and future first-rounders?

Bradley Beal would certainly change the game for Boston. With Walker, Beal, Hayward, and Tatum, they’d be competing for a title this upcoming season, perhaps even several seasons.

“Real Deal” Beal averaged a career-high 25.6 points per game last season to go alongside 5 rebounds and 5.5 assists. As he enters his 8th NBA season, he will be looking to take yet another leap in his development as a player. But for which team that leap might occur with has never been quite so doubtful.
