The summer of 2019 saw an unprecedented number of stars don a new jersey. Dynasties were crushed, new ones formed, and now we are faced with, perhaps, the most anticipated NBA season in a decade.
Get ready to do it all over again.
In 2021, we could see another league-altering offseason. In total, 26 teams are set to have max cap space, and the cap itself will increase by $16 million. But it’s not just the teams. In 2021, an insane number of high-profile names are due to become available, setting the stage further for another wild summer.
Here are just a few names of the possible free agents:
LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Paul George, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Bradley Beal, Victor Oladipo, Jrue Holiday, Rudy Gobert, Gordon Hayward, Mike Conley, DeMar DeRozan, CJ McCollum, Julius Randle, JJ Redick, Jayson Tatum, Lonzo Ball, De’Aaron Fox, Lauri Markkanen, Donovan Mitchell, OG Anunoby, Kyle Kuzma, and others.
Giannis obviously headlines the list and actually has the potential to sign the largest contract in NBA history next summer with the Milwaukee Bucks. But any of these players have the potential to seriously change the landscape.
Earning All-NBA for a second consecutive season now has Giannis Antetokounmpo eligible in the summer of 2020 to sign the largest contract in NBA history. The five-year extension starting in 2021-22 would be worth $247.3M and carry a $42.6, $46.0, $49.5, $52.9 and $56.3M cap hit.
