Manchester United will finish the summer transfer window as one of the biggest winners of the open market. The Red Devils keep adding players to their ranks and now look more dangerous than they did in the last five years.
Their latest addition was Harry Maguire, who became the most expensive defender in football after making his way from Leicester.
Now, the club is still planning on making more signings, and the last one would be huge. United are now working on a deal for Tottenham wantaway Christian Eriksen before the Premier League summer transfer window closes on Thursday.
Real Madrid were linked with Eriksen before, as they saw the Danish playmaker as an alternative to Paul Pogba, but now Los Blancos have put their attention on Ajax’s Donny van de Beek. Meanwhile, several reports have confirmed United’s interest in Eriksen.
The Daily Mail claimed that Man. Utd. are working to sign him before 5pm (BST) deadline on Thursday. In Spain, AS stated that United offered Eriksen a five-year contract with a salary comparable to Pogba’s.
Yet, things wouldn’t come through that easy. The Daily Mirror reported that chairman Daniel Levy won’t let Eriksen go unless United pay a fee of around £130 million.
Spurs are linked with Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis and Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes, who are seen as potential replacements for Eriksen. Nevertheless, nobody can tell any of them will actually be a Tottenham player before the deadline strikes.
Several questions need to be answered before Thursday, starting from how a potential Eriksen’s arrival in Old Trafford would affect Pogba’s current situation with his side.
Still, even if the transfer window closes in England, Real Madrid or Juventus or any other team interested in the French midfielder will have more time to lure the 26-year-old.
