Christian Eriksen was rumored to be on his way out of Tottenham Hotspur from the very moment his team lost the UEFA Champions League final vs. Liverpool, as the Danish wanted to win trophies and had reportedly grown sick and tired of falling short of his goal at North London.
Manchester United and Real Madrid were reportedly interested in signing him this summer, but the Spurs refused to help one of their direct rivals get stronger, so talks with the Red Devils pretty much stalled quickly.
As for Real Madrid, Los Blancos have always favored a move for Paul Pogba and have now turned their attention towards Neymar Jr, so they lacked the timing to sign him right away.
And now, Spanish outlet AS claim Juventus could be the new frontrunner to acquire his services, as Maurizio Sarri would love to pair him with Cristiano Ronaldo at Turin.
However, the Old Lady wouldn’t be able to sign him right away and would rather work on the terms of a deal with him a couple of months from now while they wait until his contract with the Spurs runs out in 2020.
Juventus has already succeeded with these kinds of moves in the past, signing both Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey to pre-contracts before their deals expire and then signing them for free in the summer.
Eriksen has already opened up about his desire to embrace a new challenge elsewhere, but some rumors claimed he was just using Madrid and United as leverage to get a pay raise with Tottenham.
According to the latest reports, the London side is willing to make him one of the highest-paid players on the planet and double his salary to convince him of staying put, so we’ll have to wait and see how this situation pans out for both parties.
