Tyronn Lue may be making his way to Los Angeles once and for all, but not to join LeBron James in the Los Angeles Lakers, as it was rumored at the end of the last season when the Californians parted ways with Luke Walton.

Now, Lue is linked to the other team of Los Angeles, the Clippers, to join their coaching staff. According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Clippers are close to hiring the former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach as a top assistant to Doc Rivers.

Ty Lue was fired at the beginning of the 2018/19 season following an 0-6 record with the Cavaliers. After that, he was reported to be in talks with the Lakers over their then-vacant head coaching position. Nevertheless, that didn’t come to fruition, even though he was believed to be the first option for the Purple and Gold, and the Lakers ended up hiring Frank Vogel.

The 42-year-old shared history with both the Clippers and their head coach. He was Rivers’ assistant with the Boston Celtics from 2011-13 and followed him to Los Angeles before the 2013/14 campaign. Before that, he had played under the longtime coach during a brief tenure with the Orlando Magic in 2003 until Rivers was dismissed after starting the season 1-10.

Under his watch, the Cavaliers won the 2015/16 NBA title, the first-ever in the history of the franchise, after he replaced David Blatt midway through that campaign. The Cavs went to the Finals for two more years with him, but they were beaten by the Golden State Warriors in each edition. He spent four seasons with Cleveland until they fired him at the start of the last campaign.
