2x All-Star Andre Drummond has been in Detroit for the entirety of his 7 year NBA career. And although personal stats have earned him a number of accolades, the team as a whole have been much less fortunate.
So when he described his free-agent status as ‘exciting,’ it raised a number of eyebrows throughout the community.
Here is the exchanged Drummond had with Osgood Shootout tournament in New Britain, Connecticut.
Reporter: You’ve got a lot of years left, you’re still a young player.
Drummond: I’m a free agent next summer.
Reporter: Looking forward to that?
Drummond: Yeah, it should be fun, I’m excited. I think I’m the only one that has a big contract coming up that year.
It will be interesting to see how this next season plays out for the Pistons. Even after acquiring Blake Griffin from the Clippers back in 2018, the team has been unable to reach their postseason goals.
If that trend continues during the 2019-20 campaign, do not be surprised if Andre starts looking for other options this summer.
He is averaging 14.1 points and 13.7 rebounds on 54% shooting for his career. At just 26-years-old, you’d be hard-pressed to find a team in the league who wouldn’t be willing to take him in.
