When everything pointed out that Mauro Icardi was set to stay put in Milan, it looks like the Argentinian striker might leave Internazionale after all, with one unexpected team trying to acquire his services this summer.

According to ESPN FC, Atletico Madrid are negotiating a deal to sign Mauro Icardi on loan from Inter Milan with the option to buy for €70 million.

This summer hasn’t been the best for Icardi, who was replaced with former Manchester United star Romelu Lukaku, was stripped of his No. 9 shirt at the expense of the Belgian and given the No. 7 in exchange. In the last couple of weeks, he was linked with a move to Napoli and Juventus, but those moves don’t look very likely right now.

ESPN FC claims that the talented striker would be ‘delighted’ to join Atletico as he and his family are keen to move to the Spanish capital. Nevertheless, although Atletico want a loan move, Inter would prefer to sell Icardi right now.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone is keen to bring in another forward and his side was reportedly close to signing Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia. Icardi moved to Spain when he was nine, being part of Barcelona’s academy, therefore he wouldn’t have any issues adapting to the country.

Nevertheless, Simeone won’t only get Icardi should this move goes through, but his wife and agent, too, who is considered the biggest factor for Inter and Icardi to end their relationship over the last season. Yet, sources say that Simeone has made it clear he will not tolerate the same issues at Atletico.

Los Rojiblancos have until September 2 to complete a deal for the striker, so we have to know to see whether Inter decides to part ways with the controversial player.
