Lionel Messi’s current contract situation with Barcelona hasn’t been unnoticed. The Argentinian star has a curious clause written into his Barcelona contract, which in theory allows him to leave the club on a free transfer to join whichever team he likes, according to Cadena Ser.
This has generated a lot of reactions from around Europe, including England, where Manchester City could be lining up a move for Messi after learning this news.
One condition of this clause, however, as per Cadena Ser, is that Messi has to inform the Blaugrana of his decision before May in any given season. Now Diario Gol report that City would love to strike a deal for Messi and have the generational talent as part of their squad.
Former Barca boss Pep Guardiola is lacking one real focal point and superstar in his squad at the Etihad Stadium, and Messi could be the perfect solution for that.
Still, this is only a dream right now, as it remains to be seen if Lio ever wants to leave Barcelona and exercises his apparent right to walk out that easy. The Catalans are confident their loyal star player wouldn’t call it quits with them and decide to go somewhere else.
We’re talking about Messi here, he’s been such a big part of Barcelona’s history. It won’t be hard for him to find a new team, but it would take something very special to persuade him to leave the Camp Nou any time soon.
