Just when it looked like the Paul Pogba situation was unbearable for everybody involved, the French superstar stood put at Old Trafford for, at least, six more months.
Pogba was trying to force his way out of Carrington and had openly let the club know about his desire to leave, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer viewed him as a pivotal part of his project going forward.
Hence, the Red Devils refused to lessen their huge financial expectations for him and he was forced to stay with the team, even despite all the hate and jeers from angry United fans.
Pogba was reportedly close to joining Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos recently admitted to being a fan of his style, so Mathias Pogba, one of his brothers, addressed Spanish show El Chiringuito TV to talk about it, and confessed his brother engaged in talks with several FC Barcelona players or former players:
“I know he’s spoken with a few players, but not Ramos. Who? Oh, Messi. Sometimes, not always. Zlatan (Ibrahimovic). (Antoine) Griezmann, because of the national team. I don’t know about anyone from Real Madrid. Oh, (Raphael) Varane, yes, and yes, with (Zinedine) Zidane, yes,” Pogba told the media.
Barcelona have always been fond of Pogba’s talents and were reportedly close to signing him in the past, so it’s definitely interesting to see there’s some mutual interest from the midfielder, especially amid his desire to leave the club.
Mathias Pogba had already talked about a potential move to Barcelona earlier in the past when talking to Spanish outlet AS, claiming there weren’t many clubs where his brother could take a step forward:
“We like tiki-taka. Whenever I can, I watch their (Barcelona) games or go to the Camp Nou. When my brother leaves Manchester United, there are only three clubs he can go to improve: (Manchester) City, Real Madrid or Barca. He’s not going to go to City, so he’ll come to Spain: to Barca or Madrid,” he claimed back in January, as reported by Sky Sports.
