It looks like Arda Turan’s life has taken a major turn since leaving Atletico de Madrid to join FC Barcelona back in 2015, as he’s struggled to get back on track both on and off the pitch.
Turan was never able to establish himself as a consistent player at Camp Nou and was eventually sent away on a loan to Istanbul Basaksehir.
Moreover, he got into a heated altercation with Turkish singer Berkay Sahin last October, breaking his nose and then following him to the hospital.
Arda fired a gun at the floor in order to intimidate Sahin and his wife, who had accused him of verbally harassing her on a club, an accusation Turan has categorically denied ever since:
“I did not commit this ‘verbal harassment’ crime which even bothers me to speak of it. Nor is it possible. The headline of this event is that I’m acquitted of the charges of harassment; not the penalties I received for errors I made due to these slanders thrown at me,” Turan claimed in a statement.
Still, Marca reports that the Turkish star was handed a 2-year, eight months and 15 days sentence for “shooting with guns in a manner that would create fear, anxiety or panic and possession of unlicensed weapons.”
Arda, however, is unlikely to serve any jail time at all, as the court has agreed to suspend the sentence as long as he avoids legal troubles for the next five years.
Turan was once one of the most beloved and respected Atletico de Madrid players in the world, as his grit, grind, hustle, and physicality made the Colchoneros feel a lot of pride night in and night out.
Now, he’s yet another star that hasn’t been able to stay in his lane and his off-court antics have pretty much shut the door on any potential return to Barcelona.
