The Los Angeles Clippers essentially won the lottery when they acquired Paul George and Kawhi Leonard this past summer. After going from fringe playoff team to bonafide title contender, it is clear that the Clips are among the most improved teams of the offseason.
But could they build the star power of their roster even further?
According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, young sharpshooting star Bradley Bela could be on the radar of several contending teams this season if he is made available. He included the Clippers on the list of potential trade candidates.
“The name that will come up over and over, in connection with every realistic destination, is Bradley Beal. Beal is really good. He just turned 26. He can thrive off the ball. Beal would bring minimal skill overlap to most preexisting star pairings.”
“The Clippers don’t have the draft assets for such a trade, but I wonder how they would feel about a theoretical package of Patrick Beverley, Montrezl Harrell, Landry Shamet and Mfiondu Kabengele — leaving a thin and aging roster around Beal, Leonard and George.”
Beal would make the Clippers instant title favorites. While they would have to give up some depth in return, Beal’s youth and his ability to stretch the floor will be huge for the Clippers.
In return, the Wizards get some young guns and a very solid veteran piece in Patrick Beverley.
It’s a good trade for both sides — and one that may translate into reality before February.
