Manchester United are ready to extend Paul Pogba’s contract even though the French midfielder has made it clear that he doesn’t want to stay in England. The Red Devils are reportedly hopeful of entering negotiations with Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola in an attempt to secure the French star to a new long-term contract at Old Trafford.
He still has two years in his current deal with the English giants, but they are eager to ink fresh terms following quite a turbulent summer transfer window regarding the World Cup winner.
However, according to ESPN, negotiations are likely to be difficult after the player expressed his desire to face a new challenge.
United were able to extend the contracts of David De Gea and Victor Lindelof in recent weeks, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to end any rumor surrounding his key figures. Having in mind that Real Madrid’s boss was reportedly eager to land Pogba over the summer, it’s not a surprise that Manchester want to lock up this guy before it’s too late.
ESPN also note that Pogba hasn’t ruled out signing an extension at Old Trafford, even though he hasn’t given up hope on a move to Madrid.
Pogba’s agent is understood to have a good relationship with United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, which could make things easier if Solskjaer convinces his star man to stay. Pogba is seen as a very important player in Manchester, and they won’t lose him just like that.
We already saw what they were capable of doing to retain the Frenchman this summer. If Madrid want to go for his signing once again, they will have to work really hard to finally land their desired player.
