With Kawhi Leonard gone, the Raptors are looking to Pascal Siakam to be their knight in shining armor. Last season, his play was huge in the success of their team, and the franchise is hoping he will be able to step it up and lead them to glory all on his own.

If not, huge could be used as trade bait to save money on pursuing potential stars in the future.  SBNation‘s Michael Pina recently suggested this scenario and named three teams who could lead the charge in negotiations: New Orleans, OKC, and Atlanta.

“Siakam makes sense everywhere, and even on a max contract he’s young enough not to push any timelines ahead of schedule,” Pina wrote.

Obviously, Siakam is a low-risk, high reward investment. He’s still young and his ceiling is high.

But he is also unproven and has to show he can sustain his All-Star level performance over a long period of time. If the Raptors deem their team a failure, he’d make the perfect trade chip.

Last season, he averaged 16.9 points per game, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists for the Raptors. It’s hard to imagine him not putting up similar stats somewhere else. The question is, how much higher can he go?
