Ever since 2017 lottery pick Lonzo Ball entered the NBA, he has been under the shadow of LaVar and Big Baller Brand. His first years in the league were engulfed not only by his Father’s antics but by his Father’s decisions. LaVar convinced his son to stick with BBB after the company got denied by bigger brands like Nike and Addidas. Lonzo left all of his business and endorsement deals to his Father, and essentially handed the reigns of his career (and even some aspects of life) over to his family.
At least, that’s what it looked like to us, as we watched Lonzo blindly follow LaVar’s lead.
But in an interview with Adrian Wojnarowski on “The Woj Pod,” the young point guard assured the world that he has finally taken control.
“I’m controlling everything now. You really can’t tell me what to do. It’s my life, my career. I’m making all the decisions.”

Lonzo reached a deal with Nike after severing ties with Big baller Brand for good. And now, for the Pelicans, it seems he is focusing on his basketball career.
As for LaVar and the fam, they’ve stayed eerily quiet since the trade, perhaps hinting that the era of media-fire storm is over for the celebrity basketball family. At least, it’s over for now.
All bets are off when LaMelo hits the league next season.
