Even though Giannis Antetokounmpo had a great 2018/19 NBA season, some people feel the Greek Freak didn’t do all the things he could do to take the Milwaukee Bucks to the NBA Finals.

Yes, he won the 2019 NBA MVP award, and most people see him as one of the best players in the league entering this new season, but not at the same level ESPN does. They placed Giannis as the best player in the league ahead of the 2019/20 season, but not many people are happy with the decision.

Although Antetokounmpo is seen as a top 2 player, the majority of fans expected Kawhi Leonard to be crown as the best baller in the league entering the new season. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith made the case for Leonard during Friday’s edition of First Take, making it clear that the Klaw was responsible for Giannis not to finish the season in the best way.

“I’m on the mindset that LeBron is No. 1, LeBron is the best player in the world. I personally put KD ahead of Kawhi if he were not hurt. I’d probably put him against LeBron. To me, the only debate is LeBron and KD. (…) I’m speaking strictly on the offensive side of the ball. I don’t think that Kawhi is LeBron, I don’t think that Kawhi is KD, and Giannis doesn’t even belong in the conversation. If he ain’t dunking on somebody, then you know what? He’s got problems, which Kawhi Leonard exposed when Nick Nurse took Kawhi, put him on the Greek Freak and said ‘excuse me, stop that locomotive from coming down, neutralize him to some degree0’, all of a sudden the Greek Freak couldn’t handle that. So you got exposed, that’s why I’m saying. So the Greek Freak is taken out of the argument because offensively I think he’s incredibly limited until he develops a perimeter shot.”

It looks like Giannis isn’t bothered about that right now, as he’s even dared to say he could win a championship even without shooting 3-pointers. Well, this league is more than dunks and if you want to be successful and become the best player you can be, dunking the ball isn’t the best or only path to follow.

Still, Giannis is young and he has a lot of things to improve and learn. Maybe not now, but when KD and LeBron decide to retire from the game, the Milwaukee Bucks’ star could be the best player in the league. If he starts to work on his game faster, we could see Giannis becoming the monster everyone expects him to be on the court.
