The NBA is facing, perhaps, one of their biggest scandals in recent memory. After a tweet by Houston’s GM Daryl Morey sparked international controversy, the league is facing the potential loss of billions of dollars.

Needless to say, the league is trying its hardest to douse the flames. But even that task is proving to be quite the challenge.

The NBA cannot exactly stop folks from talking about it or speaking out against it — at least, not without major backlash from the community.

In one recent example, the NBA had to step in and apologize after one of their own shut down a question related to international affairs and about how players will feel about speaking out on politics/social justice in the future in light of all the events happening now.

The NBA issued a statement in the aftermath of this incident:

“A team representative inappropriately interjected to prevent CNN’s Christina Macfarlane from receiving an answer to her question. We’ve apologized to Ms. Macfarlane as this was inconsistent with how the NBA conducts media events.”

Tensions have reached an All-Time high between the NBA and China. The CBA, CCTV, and other Chinese based companies have resisted partnering with NBA related programming. The results could be catastrophic if things aren’t handled soon.
