Following a great season with Los Angeles Galaxy, Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be heading back to Europe to reunite with one of their former teams. Ibra could make a sensational return to England, where Manchester United would receive him with open arms.
The Swedish striker, now 38, is expected to leave LA Galaxy at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to Italy. Yet, reports from Italy suggest his next destination might be the Premier League instead, trying to help Manchester United to get back on track.
TuttoMercatoWeb reports that United are interested in bringing Ibrahimovic back to Old Trafford and are ‘in talks’ over a stunning move for the LA Galaxy striker. It was United precisely the last club Ibra played for in Europe; he left in 2018 for the MLS side and has made 58 appearances for the California-based club, scoring an impressive 53 times and assisting 15 times.
Back in August, the LA Galaxy captain and striker hinted he would return to United ‘if they needed him,’ amid links with Serie A sides Napoli and Inter Milan. These words were welcomed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who went further and said he would be happy to have Ibra back ‘if he is serious’ about returning.
Manchester saw Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez depart this summer and they didn’t make any additions for these players. Now, the Red Devils are struggling for first-choice striking options, which has increased the rumors of Ibra making his return to the Island.
Anthony Martial has been United’s main striker for the season, but the Frenchman has picked injuries. Solskjaer has also called upon Marcus Rashford and United starlet Mason Greenwood to play as strikers in the absence of Martial, but that hasn’t been enough.
Seeing how things ended for Ibra in the MLS this season, it will be hard to see him playing with LA once again. Right now he has several suitors, but we still need to wait and see where he’ll end up.
