The season has just started and some players aren’t even eligible to be traded right now because of the contracts they signed in the offseason, but that doesn’t mean league executives aren’t working overtime to try and get some deals done.
Obviously, no team is trying to tank right now as anything could happen in the league, but once the season starts to unveil and the playoff picture gets clearer, several players could be on the move.
And, judging for what we’ve seen during these first couple of weeks of the season, we can be sure that there’s going to be at least one big trade before the deadline. Today, we’re going to let you know about the most important trade rumors around the league right now:
Mavericks Could Trade For Chris Paul To Form Powerful Big Three
It’s been clear that the Luka Doncic – Kristaps Porzingis duo are a great fit and the young Dallas Mavericks have thrived early in the season, but they still look a veteran star away from being a legit contender in the West.
Hence, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley thinks the Mavericks could pursue Chris Paul on trade, as he could run the offense as their pass-first point guard and provide some nice stroke from beyond the arc as well. However, absorbing his massive contract isn’t going to be easy.
D’Angelo Russell Trade To Miami Heat
The D’Angelo Russell experiment at the Bay looks like a disaster so far, as he posted the worst +/- of the league (-74) during his first couple of outings with the Golden State Warriors and he looks like a huge defensive liability for them right now.
Nonetheless, the Miami Heat would be more than willing to make the most of his sweepstakes and pair him with Jimmy Butler, as USA Today’s Mark Medina reported they might be interested in trading for him, while Zach Frydenlund of Complex suggested they could get him for Justise Winslow, James Johnson, and a 2024 first-round pick.
D’Angelo Russell Perfect Destinations
On that same note, Russell could be in several team’s agendas if the Warriors end up deciding to move on from him and tank this season while they wait for Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to get back at full strength.
Best Destinations For Draymond Green
Ok, this one’s a long shot, but truth to be told, the Golden State Warriors may be considering all their options right now as their dynasty looks over, at least for the time being.
So, all players not named Stephen Curry could be available at some point of the season, and that includes Draymond Green, with the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, Maimi Heat, and Atlanta Hawks as possible suitors for his services, as per our previous report.
Celtics Could Complete Blockbuster Deal With the Spurs
The Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs have both gotten off to great starts of the season, but they could benefit a lot from each other, should they be interested in making an aggressive move.
Hence, Danny Ainge could send Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Marcus Smart and a future-heavily protected pick (Memphis’ 1st round pick to Boston protected for selections 1-6 in 2020) to San Antonio in return for LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan, on a proposed trade we reported earlier.
Lakers Could Pursue JJ Redick
The New Orleans Pelicans have shown some great things early in the season, but they’ve still struggled to win games with their young guns growing through their mistakes.
And, with Josh Hart blossoming as a nice scorer, the Pelicans could try and move JJ Redick, with the Lakers allegedly interested in adding more firepower around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, according to Jason Reed of Fansided’s L.A. Sports Hub.
