Barcelona look ready to fight off Liverpool for the signature of Timo Werner. The German striker has enjoyed sweet seasons with RB Leipzig and now looks like the perfect time for him to seek new challenges.
Plenty of teams have set their sights on the Germany international, but now the race is seemingly between Barcelona and Liverpool. Werner started this season netting 13 goals and six assists in 16 games in all competitions, a run that includes two hat-tricks, so it’s not a surprise that some of the biggest clubs in Europe are after him.
According to Don Balon, though, it looks like the Blaugrana are going to have a battle on their hands if they’re to secure his services. A recent report from the Mirror claimed Liverpool, as well as Manchester United, were interested in Werner, who’s set to cost any club around €50 million, as per Don Balon.
This a player that will add a lot of quality to whichever team wins this battle. Between Barca and Liverpool, the Blaugrana are in more need of a striker than the Reds following Luis Suarez’s recent performances at the Camp Nou. The Uruguayan has been linked with a move to the MLS recently and that could clear the space for Werner to take over.
If Ernesto Valverde keeps using Antoine Griezmann as a winger, Timo will be more than pleased to join the La Liga champions. That said, it looks like he’ll get a lot more action with the Catalans than under Jurgen Klopp.
Still, there is plenty of time before the next summer transfer window, so we need to wait and see how this whole thing will develop for all the teams involved.
