Christian Pulisic struggled early to make an impact for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea early on, with several fans dubbing him a ‘bust’ after he completed a sensational move from Borussia Dortmund.
However, the American is slowly coming together and proving his worth at the Stamford Bridge, scoring 5 goals and handing out 6 assists in 14 caps for the Blues.
That’s why Nuri Sahin, his former teammate at Borussia Dortmund, urged fans to stop comparing him to Eden Hazard, claiming he’s not going to be the next Hazard, but the first Pulisic:
“Which player can be compared to Hazard, though? There is only a handful of players on the level of Hazard. As I know, Christian doesn’t put himself under pressure to be the next Hazard. I spoke to him and he also doesn’t have that pressure from the club, from his manager, so he will be OK. He will be a great player for Chelsea, but he will not be the next Hazard. It’s important to be the best version of Christian Pulisic.
It’s not easy to go to a huge club like Chelsea and play the same way he did in Dortmund but I was sure he would be OK. And now you can see some goals and some great games. If he is in full flow, he will be a big player for Chelsea — he already is,” Sahin told The Times.
Pulisic was supposed to step up in Hazard’s absence after he left the club to join Real Madrid, but injuries and Lampard’s system made it difficult for him to adjust early on.
However, Pulisic, 21, is still quite young and has the best years of his career ahead of him, so there’s no need to rush him and put that kind of pressure on his shoulders during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
