Former Chelsea player John Obi Mikel has labeled his former teammate Eden Hazard as one of the worst trainers he has ever seen. The Nigerian shared the dressing room with Hazard between 2012 and 2017 as they won two Premier League titles and the Europa League together with the Blues.
Hazard’s quality earned him the right to make his dream switch to Real Madrid this summer. However, his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu didn’t start the best way and has been hampered by questions over his fitness.
Mikel has fueled the discussion, revealing Hazard’s conditioning could be far better by revealing his training habits at Chelsea.
“Hazard has an incredible talent,’ Mikel said while speaking to beIN Sports.
“Maybe not as good as [Lionel] Messi, but he can do whatever he wants with the ball at his feet.
“He didn’t like to train hard. While we were working he was waiting for us to finish training just standing there.
“But on Sundays he was always man of the match, it was unbelievable.”
Mikel is right with his words, as Hazard was always good during his days with Chelsea, regardless of his training habits. Nevertheless, things are way different in Madrid now, as he’s found himself unable to make an impact on Los Blancos’ game, struggling to show the things that led Madrid to sign him.
We’re in the middle of the season and Eden can still turn things around. Perhaps he’ll change his habits in the Spanish capital, but Mikel’s words aren’t helpful for the Belgium international.
