A couple of days ago, a report from The Athletic made Chelsea fans turn their heads in disbelief, as it claimed John Terry stopped the Blues from signing Atletico de Madrid’s Sergio Aguero.

According to the report, Chelsea had already made an offer for his services, but when the Colchoneros asked for more money, Terry talked them out of it.

Apparently, the English defender wasn’t impressed with ‘El Kun’s talents from their clashes in the UEFA Champions League, so he urged them not to make an investment in him.

However, this report was also fresh news for Terry, as he dismissed the story on his Instagram account by deeming it fake news and ‘nonsense’:

“Where do these stories come from?. If they bothered calling player’s agents it would solve an awful lot of nonsense!” Terry wrote.

Notably, Aguero had flirted with the idea of making a move to Chelsea prior to joining Manchester City, lauding the club and their players in 2010 while also slamming Manchester City by claiming they weren’t trophy-bound yet.

“Chelsea are a great club. They have become one of the most feared in Europe over recent years. I look at players like (Didier) Drogba and (Frank) Lampard and they have been – and still are – the best players in their positions in the world. I could really learn from players like that, there is no doubt.

London would be a really amazing city to live in as well, myself and my wife could be really happy there. Carlos Tevez is doing really well at Manchester City but, for me, it is about joining a club that are ready to challenge for honors. City are not ready yet,” the Argentinean said,as quoted by The Guardian.

Now, Aguero is one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the English Premier League, so Chelsea must’ve regretted their choice not to offer more money, but hey, that’s just how it goes in this business.
