A couple of days ago, Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert claimed Matthijs de Ligt regretted joining Juventus and he wasn’t happy at Turin, especially considering he had the chance to join Barcelona instead.
“De Ligt is a great defender, but in the end he made a choice. I think he is a little sorry, but it is what it is,” the former striker told Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The Blaugrana were allegedly leading the race for the Dutch wonderkid last season, but Juventus didn’t hesitate to make a huge investment to make sure he inked his signature on paper.
So, with social media going crazy over such strong words coming out of a Dutch legend, Matthijs de Ligt was forced to dismiss the report, claiming he’s more than satisfied with The Old Lady and that he had never expressed or felt any remorse whatsoever:
“You know there will always be a magnifying glass on you if you are bought for so much money. After my first game against Napoli, that has become even worse. But I actually go the extra mile in every game. I get the appreciation of my teammates, the fans and everything else. I am happy with how it’s going.
I don’t regret the fact I have moved to Juventus. They are saying and writing a lot of stuff. The fact that it comes from someone like Patrick Kluivert might make it extra credible … But I didn’t speak to him myself, so I guess that’s an assumption,” the center-back told Voetbal Primeur.
De Ligt is one of the most promising players in the world right now and it’s normal to see him struggle early on as he adapts to a new environment, new teammates, a new system and a new culture. So, let’s stop putting words in his mouth and just show him some support instead.
