Chelsea beat the odds and defeated Lille at home to go through the UEFA Champions League’s knock-out stage with a team mostly filled with young players and promising prospects.
Amongst them, Tammy Abraham has certainly impressed early on the season, and he led his team to victory with an early score vs. the French club.
Hence, Abraham stated that the Blues are actually looking forward to facing the best teams in the world, going as far as to claim that he’d love to face Barcelona at Nou Camp:
“This is exciting, very exciting. We’re never ones to back down from a challenge. We want to play against the best teams in the world and play in the best stadiums in the world. No fear. We’re ready for anyone. I would love it if it is playing at the Nou Camp or somewhere I’ve never played before,” the English striker said after the game, as quoted by Goal.
The young striker is blossoming as one of the most promising players in the world. Yet, he’s still a kid and as such was completely amazed by the possibility of playing in the round of 16:
“From our first game in the competition we realized how big it was. It’s a massive achievement for us to be through to the last 16. And it means the world to me; it’s a dream come true to have watched the Champions League as a young kid growing up and now to be playing in it myself. But now it’s also about knuckling down and focusing on the Premier League until the New Year,” Abraham concluded.
Chelsea have been a pleasant surprise so far, as they were served a transfer ban and had to trust their academy players. Now, Frank Lampard’s team can brag about being one of Europe’s finest.
