Manchester United could be getting ready for life after Paul Pogba, as the Frenchman could leave the Red Devils as soon as next season.
He’s long been linked with a move to Real Madrid and that could be a reality shortly according to recent reports. Ever since he admitted back in June that he would be open to a ‘new challenge’, the player is always the subject of rumors regarding his contract situation with Manchester.
Pogba has 18 months left on his current deal, and Manchester could trigger an option to extend that through 2022. However, that doesn’t seem so plausible given the back and forth between the player and the club.
According to the Daily Mail, Pogba still wants to leave and United are willing to let him go, as they’re apparently chasing two new midfielders before the start of next season.
This report claims that there has been no contact between the club and Pogba’s representatives since United’s ‘tentative approach’ over a new contract was turned down during the summer.
Moreover, they note that even though United have insisted the player is not for sale, they will facilitate Pogba’s departure by pursuing two new midfielders, their transfer priority alongside landing Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland.
There are several names on the table, but two of them stand out the most, with Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez and Ajax’s Donny van de Beek being atop their wishlist. Further, they haven’t ruled out a move for Christian Eriksen, who is set to run down his contract with Tottenham and leave for free next summer.
However, all these players are followed by other clubs around Europe, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and even Juventus linked with at least two of them.
