Seeing the group of good players they have, several people expected the New Orleans Pelicans to have at least a decent season. Well, that hasn’t been the case, as the Pels have struggled to have a consistent form and win games.
That is a bigger problem when you see Lonzo Ball isn’t having a good season, as his numbers decreased from the beginning of the campaign to this moment. To put things in perspective, the Pelicans are 3-18 when Lonzo plays and 4-4 when he doesn’t step on the court.
Right now Ball is shooting 37% from the field, 33% from 3, 56% on free throws. He’s averaging 10 points on 47 TS% to go with 5 assists and 4 rebounds with a -12 NET RTG.
This season appeared to be good for Ball, who started it in a good way. In the first couple of games of the season, he was shooting 80% from the free-throw line and looked more efficient from beyond the arc. He has regressed in every statistic as the season has carried on and been relegated to the bench by Alvin Gentry.
Perhaps the Pelicans are considering trading him, or at least wait until Zion Williamson returns since the duo they could make would be good for the Pels. Yet, with Zion’s date of return still uncertain, the best option for NOLA is to part ways with Lonzo.
