In the aftermath of a dominating and convincing win over the West-leading Lakers, Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo let some of his inner thoughts reach the public sphere.
Almost emotional after the symbolic victory, and the success of the season overall, Giannis explained to the media why it’s all still so surreal for him.
“I wasn’t the #1 pick. AD was. Lebron was. I wasn’t supposed to be here. I’m just happy that I’m here, going through the process and I always want to be better.”
Indeed, Giannis wasn’t supposed to be where he is. Is anyone?
Even the top NBA players would love to be in Giannis’ position — a 25-year-old MVP, 3x All-Star, beloved fan-favorite, and on the track to winning a Championship. At this point, he’s pulling off what most people can only ever dream about.
For Giannis especially though, his track to stardom was not like the others. As the 15th pick in the 2013 draft, nobody really expected him to be among the Top 3 players in the world.
Nevertheless, here we are. Fresh off a win against the West’s best team (and a player many consider the GOAT) as he continues to build his case for his second-straight MVP. And somehow, even with everything that’s happening, something tells me it’s only just the beginning.
