The Brazilian tried to force a move out of Parc des Princes this summer but the French officials were reluctant to take less than 222 million euros for his services.
Hence, the Blaugrana had no choice but to let him stay put and play the waiting game to try and bring him back once this season comes to an end.
However, Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta talked about the thing nobody seems to be thinking about when talking about Neymar’s comeback: is he a good fit for the team? do they need him?
“He is one of the best players in the world and would be a great signing. But it’s another thing if it [signing Neymar] is necessary or if he will fit,” the Spanish legend told the media, as quoted by Goal.
Barcelona already signed Antoine Griezmann to a long-term deal so signing Neymar would be kind of redundant with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi still on the team, even if they’re already 33 years old.
Moreover, Iniesta opened up about his future and his desire to go back to Barcelona once his contract at Japan expires, even claiming that he would love to be a coach someday:
“I have two years left on my contract and I don’t know if I will have the enthusiasm or strength to continue for another year. I could see myself being a coach.”[After retiring from football] I would love to return to Barca at some point in my life because it’s my home, but we are talking hypothetically. I still feel like a footballer and I love it,” Iniesta concluded.
Would we see him as Ernesto Valverde’s successor? he’s one of the smartest players in the history of the game, so he’d definitely be suited for this job.
