Barcelona are reportedly preparing for life after Ernesto Valverde. The Blaugrana may be looking to reunite with a former player to take the reins of the team. According to reports from Spain, Xavi Hernandez is the biggest candidate to take over at the Camp Nou.
The buzz got bigger when Al Sadd sporting director Muhammad Ghulam Al Balushi reportedly confirmed that Xavi is in talks with Barcelona over a possible return as coach.
The former midfielder joined the Qatari club in 2015 after a great tenure with the Catalans giants. Xavi finished his career over there to start in the coaching role last year to gain experience.
It looks like he’ll have to live a huge experience with his former team, as Barcelona are reportedly looking for replacements for Ernesto Valverde. They have enjoyed some success in Spain, but things have been the complete opposite in Europe.
The last reverse suffered by the La Liga champions was a disappointing defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup in a game that looked almost finished to them.
That brings us to this moment, as it appears Xavi could be on his way back to the Nou Camp, with Al Balushi revealing that negotiations are taking place between Xavi and Barcelona.
“There are negotiations between Xavi and Barcelona now and we wish him success wherever he goes,” he is quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.
They add that Hernandez is under contract with Al Sadd until June and so the two parties will have to reach a deal to end that early if he does return to Spain. Moreover, it’s suggested that Barcelona officials are in Doha this weekend to try and reach an agreement to appoint their next coach.
According to AS, Barca have placed a two-and-a-half-year deal for Xavi on the table, so we’ll see how this thing ends up. Thierry Henry was named as another candidate at some point, so it looks like Barcelona are trying to reunite with their former stars.
