Christian Eriksen’s time at North London could be coming to an end, as the Danish playmaker continues to underperform after being sent to the bench by new coach Jose Mourinho.
Eriksen is no longer a steady member of the team’s starting XI and his lack of motivation to play for the club is becoming more evident by the day.
And to make things worse, Mourinho criticized his recent performances after subbing him out during Tottenham’s 1-0 loss vs. Liverpool:
“If you ask me if I think this is the best Christian Eriksen I have to be honest and say no. If you ask me if I know the reasons, I am not an idiot. I’m not blaming or criticizing the player, I am just saying it is normal that a player in this situation doesn’t perform at the highest level, but I can also say that he is helping us in matches that he is playing with us. Eriksen had positive performances, he had positive contributions.
I remember the game against Olympiacos which was a fundamental match for us to qualify, we were losing 2-0 and he came to the game and he gave us things. Same against Norwich, very good performance. I also think the same as probably you think and probably what our fans thought in the game. He didn’t have a very good performance in the game against Liverpool, I have to agree with that, Mourinho told the press, as quoted by Goal.
Eriksen is yet to sign a new deal with Tottenham and he’s likely to leave the club at the end of the season, as he claimed last summer that he felt ready to face a new challenge on his career.
It’s also worth noting that Jose Mourinho often turns his players into scapegoats before forcing him to leave the club, so it’s not a surprise to see him openly bash a player that’s also interested in joining another club.
