Liverpool look closer to sign RB Leipzig star Timo Werner, and they could agree on a fee before the end of this season trying to acquire the striker in the summer. Werner is one of Europe’s most promising young players as he enjoys another good season in the Bundesliga.

So far, Werner has already bagged 20 goals and registering six assists as Die Roten Bullen sit top of the division. The German international has been linked with Liverpool and Real Madrid, but Jurgen Klopp’s side has apparently stolen the lead for this signing, while Chelsea’s hunt for forward reinforcements has seen them also heavily linked to the 23-year-old.

Bayern Munich are also credited with an interest, as Werner’s good form is turning a lot of heads to him around the old continent. However, Timo has insisted he won’t leave Leipzig in the middle of the season, as the team is trying to secure the Bundesliga title with all their figures.

But, reports from Germany suggested that Werner would like a move sometime in the future – potentially the summer – with Liverpool his preferred destination.

Following on from that, Ian McGarry has suggested that an agreement could be reached on a fee for Werner before the end of the season, paving the way for a move to Anfield in the summer.

“Werner will not leave Leipzig in this window, he wants to stay and see out the season with the club who are leading the Bundesliga at this moment in time and who remain in Champions League contention as well,” McGarry said on the Transfer Window podcast.

“However, Liverpool are his preferred destination and indeed Liverpool are in the box-seat to sign him. But that would certainly be in the summer window to be completed.

“It’s not ruling out that a fee might be agreed between now and then for the player. However, there will be no transfer of Werner until the summer.”

Liverpool count with three big forwards, but one could go if Werner finds his way to Anfield. According to reports, Mohamed Salah is confident he can complete a move away from Merseyside if Werner ends up landing in Liverpool.
