Even though the player had already made up his mind, football fans around the world were shocked when Erling Braun Haaland decided to sign with German side Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.
The Norwegian striker has started his tenure with the Black and Yellows the best way, netting five goals in 59 minutes played with Dortmund. That and the things he did during his days with RB Salzburg make people think his time with the German giants will be short.

The biggest surprise for this move was the incredibly low transfer fee it took to take Haaland from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund. The £18 million that Dortmund paid Salzburg doesn’t include the agent fees, which were reported to be higher than the actual transfer fee. Still, this is a great deal for Borussia.

However, that’s not the biggest shock of all, as the deal has a very low release clause that would allow Haaland to leave for only £63 Million as early as 2022 according to German publication, Bild.
Haaland and his representatives were hoping to include a release clause below £42 million in the contract, but Dortmund didn’t want to meet their request, as per the report from Bild.
Nevertheless, the young striker will remain in control of his career. In the worst case, if he wants to make a switch before the end of the contract in 2024, Dortmund will get all the money used for Haaland back, including salary, all commissions, and possible special payments.
Seeing the kind of transactions we’re witnessing in current football, it’s very surprising finding out that Haaland could leave for such a low fee.
