Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is ready to launch a plan to sign French striker Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, and it looks like he’ll use some of his old methods. Mbappe is one of Real’s top targets, but they’re aware it would take a huge fee to break PSG’s determination not to sell right now.

Instead, AS report that Perez is focused on signing Mbappé in 2021, and he is ready to start putting the long-term plan in motion to try and ensure that they can strike a deal for a relatively affordable fee.

This plan is aimed to focus on Mbappe’s contract, which runs through 2022. Real know that they will be able to sign him once he enters the final year of his deal as PSG will certainly not allow such a valuable asset to walk away for free.

The belief is that the player would cost between €150m and €200m at that point, compared to the €300m which has been suggested for a transfer next summer.

Yet, there is a catch here, and that’s Mbappe’s decision on whether or not to sign a new contract with Les Parisians. To make this happen, Perez is ready to make indirect contact with the player’s representatives to try and encourage him to snub any contract talks.

This is a similar strategy to the one they used to lure Eden Hazard away from Chelsea last summer, with the Blues ultimately forced to sell after the Belgian entered the final year of his contract.

Mbappe isn’t having a very good time in Paris right now, as recent clashes with manager Thomas Tuchel have left him fuming and doubting about his future at the club. This may play in favor of Madrid, but we still have to wait and see how this situation develops.
