The NBA trade deadline is just hours away and the trades have been running rampantly over the past day. We saw teams such as the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat make big moves that will affect them for years to come.
Every team is expected to be active during “trade season” and one of the biggest ones is the Lakers. Despite being the first seed in the Western Conference, the Lakers still have some issues that they must fix. While you wait for more trades to happen, in this article, we will look at three last-minute trades that the Lakers could look to make.
Augustin has had a good season for the Orlando Magic and looks to be on the move. At 32, Augustin doesn’t fit the current timeline of the Magic. Though in playoff contention, it would make sense for the Magic to move him and add more depth.
A potential trade would be Augustin for Troy Daniels, DeMarcus Cousins, and multiple 2nd round picks. Even with Augustin sidelined with injury, he would still be an immediate upgrade off the bench over Rajon Rondo as he would add shooting and playmaking. The injury from Augustin could be worrisome but as the Lakers, that is a risk you would have to take.
Looking at the Magic, this trade allows you to at least get some draft capital for Augustin rather than letting him walk for nothing in free agency.
Rose and the Lakers have been linked together for some time now and a trade between the two may be coming soon. Derrick Rose is having a great year with the Detroit Pistons, averaging 18.5 points and 5.8 assists on nearly 50% shooting from the field. The Pistons have essentially made everyone available and the Lakers should jump on this opportunity.
A potential trade would probably mean that the Lakers would have to part ways with Kyle Kuzma but in the slim chance that they do not have to, they must make that trade. Rose would give the Lakers a lethal bench scorer and add playmaking to a team desperate for it.
Recently, the Lakers have called the Nets regarding Dinwiddie’s availability and if the opportunity is there, the Lakers must take it. Dinwiddie is having a career year for the Nets this season and at one point, he looked like a player poised to make the all-star game. His services are needed on the Lakers and they should do whatever it takes to get him.
A potential trade would see the Lakers parting ways with Kyle Kuzma, as well as a combination of key veterans in Danny Green, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope or Avery Bradley, and any draft capital that they have left.
Adding a third 20-point scorer to this team would make them nearly unbeatable and should solidify the roster going forward. Dinwiddie’s contributions off the bench will improve an already great offense and add another go-to guy to this team.
A trade like this seems highly unlikely due to money and assets involved but, in the NBA, anything is possible.
