The Los Angeles Lakers failed to make a move ahead of February’s trade deadline. And while the Lakers are in a good position to make a long postseason run, their need for backcourt depth has been the subject of major concern around the NBA community.

The team is expected to look towards free agency for a solution, and Kendrick Perkins already has a name they should consider: veteran shooting guard Dion Waiters.

The Lakers need a ball-handling, playmaking guard who can make shots and hold his own on defense. Waiters, even at this stage of his career, can provide that.

His antics in Miami remain a huge concern, but he could thrive in the right environment — next to LeBron James and a team prepared to offer him a clean slate.

Waiters is only a season removed from a double-digit scoring average. During the 2018-19 season, he averaged 12 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds. One has to think a comeback story is possible for the 28-year-old guard.
