In case you missed it, Giannis Antetokounmpo became a Father this week, as he and his longtime girlfriend, Mariah Riddlesprigger, gave birth to their first child (a son), named Liam. As Giannis and his family welcome this new life into the world, the Bucks have done all they can to help their star prepare for Fatherhood. Giannis seems excited and ready for his new adventure.

He also made a rather hilarious comment, alluding to the spectacular play of Fred VanVleet after he had his son.
Although Antetokounmpo knows a baby is a major life change, he also has seen firsthand how it can lead to on-court success, thanks to Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet. In the 2019 Eastern Conference finals, VanVleet was shooting a dismal 20.0% through three games. Then his son, Fred Jr., was born. VanVleet would put up 13 points off the bench in Game 4, and he shot 68% in the final three games of the series to end the Bucks’ season.
“Look at Fred VanVleet,” Antetokounmpo said. “He started making all those shots when he had his kid. Maybe that happens to me also. Who knows?”
It is true that VanVleet went on a tear after his son was born. For the NBA’s sake, let’s hope Giannis doesn’t go on a similar tear.
But, on a serious note, becoming a parent is a very big deal and a huge life changer. For Giannis, his girlfriend, and their family, it’ll be quite the adjustment. So far, they seem to be doing well enough.
