It’s not a secret that Zion Williamson is big and he might be bigger than we all think. In Monday’s episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” Bill Simmons and guest Ryen Russillo were discussing the benefits a one-game NBA playoff could offer for teams like the New Orleans Pelicans to compete with the Los Angeles Lakers due to Zion Williamson’s talent.
It was at that moment when Simmons dropped a little rumor about Williamson and his fitness.
“I heard from a reliable source that he is over 300 pounds,” Simmons said of the rookie (around the 1:48:00 mark).
Zion is officially listed at 284 pounds. For a center, that’s a normal weight, but Williamson is listed at 6’6″. Even his listed weight would be considered pretty heavy for him.
There has been growing concern about Zion and his fitness, with some rumors suggesting Nike wanted him to lose some weight before the start of the season. However, he has been dominant since getting on the court, so it’s probably not necessary for his play. Still, there will be worries about his long-term health as long as he’s close to the 300-pound mark.
He has recorded 8 straight games scoring 20+ points for the Pels, so you can tell this season he probably won’t have many troubles with his weight.
