Fadeaway World

The Golden State Warriors are ready to return to the top once they have their two stars back on the court together. Klay Thompson won’t return until next season and even though Stephen Curry was playing before the season got suspended, there weren’t many expectations around this Warriors to do something big in the West.

Before the 2019/20 campaign was suspended, the Warriors had a 15-50 record, which placed them in a good position to get a high pick in the next NBA draft. Even though we’re far from that moment now, there is one player who could help the Dubs return to the top of the league, and he’s apparently keen to go play in the Bay.

According to his parents, Dayton’s sophomore Obi Toppin, wants the Warriors to pick him in the upcoming NBA draft. Talking with Dell and Sonya Curry in an episode of the “Raising Fame” podcast, Toppin’s parents made it clear their son wanted to play in the Chase Center.

“Golden State,” Toppin’s mother said when asked about where he’d like to play in the NBA. “Let’s go to the Bay.”

Obi’s father, Obadiah, confirmed those words, pointing out his son would be great sharing touches with the future Hall of Famer, Stephen Curry.

“I got my few point guards that I always dreamed of playing for, just because they were the truest point guards — like Steph Curry,” Obadiah said. “I think Obi would be great playing with Steph Curry.”

This 2020 NBA draft won’t be a stacked one, but there will be some interesting names for the highest picks. Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, James Wiseman, and Toppin are some of the players that lead this year’s class.

Toppin decided to play for a second year in Dayton and that paid off for him. He was voted to the Associated Press All-America first team (unanimously) and was named the AP Player of the Year on Tuesday after leading his team to a 29-2 record this year.
