Steve Kerr has claimed he believes the 2017 Golden State Warriors are the best team he’s coached in his career. This season aside, the former Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs player never had a bad season with the Dubs, making the team the biggest force in the league for the last 5 seasons or so.

They had very good squads, but for Kerr, there is no comparison with the team he coached in 2017, who left no chance for the rest of the league to compete with them. During an interview with The Mercury News, he pointed out the differences between the 2015 team and the rest of the squads that won a championship.

“I think the first championship just kind of came out of nowhere. Deep down, I think we weren’t really sure in 2015 that we could win it. We were trying to convince ourselves that we could, but we didn’t really know,” Steve Kerr said. “And whereas in ’17 we knew we were the best team in the world, and we knew we were going to win the championship. We had the champion’s confidence for winning in ’15 and then we had Kevin Durant. So it’s like a totally different level of belief.”

After that, he revealed why he believed the 2017 team is the best team he’s coached since he joined the Warriors.

“The combination of talent, two-way abilities with having so many players capable of playing both ends of the floor and the motivation that came with losing in the Finals the year before and the motivation for Kevin to win his first championship — it was all in the mix,” Steve Kerr said.

“It was brand new for him and so, as a group, we were so fresh and excited to be there. There were no distractions. It was just us playing basketball.”

They’ve had very good rosters during their run of domination, but for Kerr, there was no better team than the one he had in 2017. They only lost one game in the playoffs that year, during Game 4 of the Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Warriors have been a nightmare for the NBA in the last couple of years, and they hope to return to the top next year once they have a healthy roster with Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry back.
