NBA fans love putting up conspiracy theories. From the NBA Draft being rigged to help the Knicks land Patrick Ewing to Michael Jordan being secretly suspended for gambling, we’ve heard it all.
This time, however, Twitter user @DrGuru has put together quite an interesting conspiracy theory that actually makes some sense. According to his thesis, the Houston Rockets will lose Game 7 out of the NBA’s conflict with China.
Rockets games are banned in China due to Daryl Morey’s comments on Hong Kong
Thus, if the Rockets advance, an entire Lakers playoff series wouldn’t be broadcasted in China, hurting the NBA.

To put things in context, Houston Rockets’ General Manager tweeted in favor of the Hong Kong protestors prior to the start of the season. That caused mayhem in China and up to this day, the Rockets aren’t welcome by the local government anymore, meaning their name and image are censored and you can’t watch their games in China.
That means the NBA would lose a lot of money if the Rockets were to advance and play the Lakers, let alone make the NBA Finals. Also, sending controversial referee Scott Foster could also bring some bad memories to Rockets fans.
Scott Foster was in charge of Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference Finals between Rockets and Warriors, and some controversial calls helped the Dubs advance to the Finals, with the Rockets even auditing the game due to Foster’s officiating.
The Rockets have dropped 7 consecutive playoff games officiated by Scott Foster so yeah, the conspiracy theory adds up. However, it’s also worth noting that Foster hasn’t been fond of Chris Paul either, as CP3 has lost his past 9 games overall, so this time something’s got to give.
