The San Antonio Spurs haven’t been the same team since Kawhi Leonard went down that 2016/17 season and never fully returned to the team. San Antonio has tried to land players to compete in the West but they haven’t been lucky. Last season they ended a 22-year playoff streak in the bubble and now it’s time to do new things to get this team back to the top of the league.
DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge landed in San Antonio trying to lead the team to compete for important things but they have failed at their job. This offseason could be the last they spend in San Antonio as the team is reportedly talking to a lot of people around the league trying to unlock negotiations. According to Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports, the Spurs are very active in trade talks.
“Multiple teams have told me versions of ‘Spurs are up to something. It’s rare for them, but they are talking to lots of people.'”
Of course all 30 teams are talking, but those teams are the ones who are consistently mentioned as reaching out around the league. Teams at the top of the draft or with multiple picks.
Spurs mentioned is weird, but they have a million guards and cap space ideas for 2021.

Following a disappointing season, most people thought the Spurs were going to start their rebuilding process, but now that can be different. Matt Babcock doubled down on this report, claiming that the sense around the league was that the Spurs were working quietly, but ready to make something “big.”
There is a growing sense among NBA circles that the San Antonio Spurs’ front office is currently up to something big behind the scenes.

The team could make some moves to start competing right away and return to their best version. They have good young players and their veteran can still help some teams win, so this is a team that can do business with the rest of the teams in the league.
Gregg Popovich is still with the team and that will always be attractive to any player who wants to get better in their career. Only time will tell what the Spurs are actually planning, but Spurs fans have reasons to be excited about the future of the team.
