Following the release of the All-Star voting results, Damian Lillard and Luka Doncic became the subject of major debate, as fans argued who was more deserving of the honor to start in the All-Star game.
For those that don’t know, Doncic edged out Lillard for the placement — but he doesn’t seem so sure he’s more deserving than Lillard. In a chat with the media, the Mavs star spoke a bit about the All-Star game, and how the results caught him a little off guard.
Luka Doncic on All-Star voting results: “I didn’t expect that I was going to start this game. I know that maybe [Damian] Lillard deserved it more than me.”

Doncic is certainly having a starter-worthy season. As the leader of the Mavericks, he’s averaging 29.1 points, 9.4 assists, and 8.6 rebounds per game on 47.5% shooting just a year after making the All-NBA first-team.
For Lillard, though, he wasn’t surprised by the results, even though his case this year may be the strongest of his career. Despite missing CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic, the Blazers are doing really well, sitting at almost 10 games above .500. All the while, Lillard is averaging 29.8 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game on 45.1% shooting.
It’s honestly a toss-up, and both players have a case for being All-Star starters. Still, it’s hard not to feel for Damian, who somehow still got snubbed amid him doing everything right.
