After Kobe Bryant sadly passed away last year, NBA fans started asking the league to change the logo for the Los Angeles Lakers icon’s silhouette. That seemed to be part of the past until Kyrie Irving brought that up again, saying that Kobe should be the new logo for all the things he did in his career and his impact on modern-day players’ lives.
Adam Silver addressed this topic during a Zoom call with reporters on Saturday, saying what everybody already knew, that the league isn’t thinking of changing the logo right now. Yet, he said that things can change with time, but at this moment, they aren’t discussing any of that.
“There are no ongoing discussions” about changing the logo, Silver said. “The logo is iconic. … It doesn’t feel to me that this is the appropriate moment.”
On potential changes to NBA logo (and specifically, suggestions to make it Kobe Bryant), Silver says: “There are no ongoing discussions” about it. Adds, “The logo is iconic. … It doesn’t feel to me that this is the appropriate moment” to be changing it.

After #Nets star Kyrie Irving pushed for the #NBA logo to get changed to Kobe Bryant’s likeness, Silver said “there are no ongoing discussions at the league office,” but adds “things change over time.”

Kyrie expressed his desire to see his mentor as the logo of the league and that’s something that a lot of people would like to see but the front office isn’t entertaining that idea just yet.
“My thing is paying homage to the example that has been set by that man, he was the standard for our generation and he will continue on,” Irving said last month. “I think he deserves it, I think his family deserves it, I think we deserve it — seeing greatness personified as Mamba. Anyone that’s coming into the league should know that that’s the example that was set.”
“It sure looks a lot like him.” _ Adam Silver, on the logo, which is Jerry West, but nobody will ever officially say it is Jerry West.
Put simply, the league isn’t looking to change it right now.

If you had any doubts about this, Silver made it clear the league isn’t planning to change the logo. Perhaps in 5, 10 years things will be different but as they stand now, Jerry West will remain as the logo of the association.
