After starting the season 1-3, the Phoenix Suns got slammed for their poor performance, and many gave up hope that the team would find their way back to the NBA Finals.
But since their loss, they’ve won 13 straight games, and now boast the second-best record in the entire NBA.
Despite their scorching hot play of late, the Suns have hardly been talked about by the media or fans.
While some might get angry by that fact, Mikal Bridges isn’t thinking about it at all.
Here’s what he said in a recent appearance on “The Old Man & The Three”:
Redick: “I spent about 7 f*cking hours at ESPN today and the Suns weren’t brought up once.”
Bridges: “ESPN, Fox Sports, NBA TV, them motherfuckers, are they the ones playing against us? I don’t give a damn what they think. If they wanna come on that court and play against us than they are more than welcome to step on that court with us. But I don’t give a damn what people say about me, what I deserve or what ranking I should be. That sh*t don’t mean nothing. If I rank 90, if I rank 80, like what the hell that gonna do for me?”
It’s certainly an admirable stance to take. Instead of begging for fame or recognition, Bridges is keeping his eyes on the prize and going to work.
He doesn’t care what others are saying about him or his team.
So far, that attitude seems to be paying off, as Bridges is averaging 13.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game on 54% shooting.
No matter what lies ahead for him going forward, it’s becoming clear that Phoenix’s Finals run last year was no fluke. They’re for real, and they’re here to stay.
But we’ll see soon enough if they have what it takes to go the distance this time around.
