Ja Morant is one of the most promising young point guards in the league. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 2019, and followed that season up with an impressive sophomore campaign, averaging 19.0 PPG and 7.4 APG. He also eliminated Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament, allowing the Grizzlies to make the playoffs. There’s no doubt that the future is bright for the young guard.

When speaking to Sarah Kustok and Michael Grady on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Morant’s teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. lauded Morant’s abilities. Jackson drew attention to Ja Morant knowing the game very well and also claimed that Morant truly “loves the game”.

"He just knows the game so well."

Jaren Jackson Jr tells @sarahkustok and @grady how impressed he is with Ja Morant.

He just knows the game so well. He really loves the game, it’s in his blood. There’s a lot of things on the court that we don’t even really have to talk about. Just glances and hand motions. Just sleight of hand, talking. It doesn’t have to be discussed cause we both watch a lot of film… we both love the game, so it’s kinda like a language there.

There’s a language when you love the game. If you don’t love the game, people who love the game can tell… I just think that the way he knows where people need to be on the court and just everything that comes from watching film. He’s natural, natural at a lot of things. You see all the other stuff, but if you really know basketball, the types of reads he’s making at this age is really next level… it’s always gonna be fun watching him play.

It’s clear that Ja Morant is a great floor general, and that he can get his teammates in positions to be successful. Some believe that Ja Morant is a future superstar and a winner, and he’s certainly shown great flashes in the playoffs, averaging 30.2 PPG and 8.2 APG in his first-ever series against the Utah Jazz.

The Western Conference will be tough next season, and the fight for playoff seeding will be tougher than ever. It’s unclear whether the Memphis Grizzlies will have enough firepower to make the playoffs once again, but it would be unwise to count them out so long as Ja Morant is leading them.
