The NBA season may be on hold, but there will be some serious stakes on the line when(if) it finally returns.
For the Lakers especially, the tandem of LeBron James and Anthony Davis had them squarely in the chase for a title. But did they miss out on their guy?
In an appearance on the “Scoop B” Radio podcast, former Lakers assistant coach Tracy Murray detailed why the failure to acquire Andre Iguodala was a huge blow to the franchise.
“I would say Igoudala. They need that Championship, MVP, Finals experience,” Murray said when asked who he thinks the Lakers need more between Iggy and Jamal Crawford.
“They need somebody that’s going to lock down defensively. Even though their defense is good, he can add to it. He needs somebody that’s not going to panic in situations during the playoffs. He’s not going to panic. Champions don’t panic. That’s the difference between the people that win and the people that don’t win…champions don’t panic.”
As a lockdown, defensive-minded veteran with Championship experience, he would have been an ideal fit for the Lakers.
Alongside LeBron, Davis, and Danny Green, the team would have dominated the defensive-end. Unfortunately for them, Iguodala was picked up by the Heat in a mid-season deal with the Grizzlies.
The Lakers will have to go on without him — and we’ll see how they fare.
