NBA Rumors: Top 5 Best Free Agents For The San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs are shaping up for a tough season in a very competitive Western Conference. While they have two All-Stars, they need all the help they can get.

Contents
  • 5. Jose Calderon
  • 4. Ryan Anderson
  • 3. Jerryd Bayless
  • 2. Joakim Noah
  • 1. Marcin Gortat

My to mention, legendary coach Gregg Popovich is known for his deep depth chart so it is only logical that the Spurs add one of the best remaining free agents on the market.

Depth wise, they could certainly use a Center and a backup Point Guard for some extra competition and emergencies. Here are the best free agents the Spurs should sign.

5. Jose Calderon

Calderon is a very steady point guard, who started not too long ago for the Cleveland Cavaliers at one point. He is a reliable shooter from deep and can be relied upon to run the offense and stay within a system.

He is also very experienced and will thrive with Gregg Popovich pulling the strings. As a backup point guard, Calderon is one of the best options you can get.

4. Ryan Anderson

Ryan Anderson Houston

Ryan Anderson signed a massive contract with the Rockets that ended not too long ago. For a veterans minimum contract, he is a great option as a big man.

He can space the floor very well and will fit very well next to Aldridge and even Poeltl who prefer to keep it on the block. The Spurs love corner three, and Anderson has mastered that skill.

Update:

Free agent forward Ryan Anderson has agreed to a significantly partially guaranteed deal with the Houston Rockets, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Anderson returns to Houston.

3. Jerryd Bayless

Bayless is a backup point guard who can play big minutes when you need him to. He is a reliable scorer and shooter on the floor and is a constant threat. There is a reason why Bayless has been in the league for so long.

His consistency in getting points and applying pressure on the defense is a very valuable aspect for a backup, and the Spurs will most likely maximize his skillet at his age.

2. Joakim Noah

(via the Commercial Appeal)

Noah is a hustle-first, defensive big man who is still looking for a home in the NBA. A former All-Star, Noah is one of the most recognizable players in the league thanks to his passion for the game and his desire to play hard-nosed defense.

While injuries have robbed him of his star abilities, he can still give you quality minutes as a backup center where he will thrive defending the paint and hustling for rebounds.

1. Marcin Gortat

As one of the remaining free-agent big men, Gortat might be the best one left. He is not too old yet and can play big minutes when needed. The Polish Hammer is a powerful player who thrives on scoring in the paint and using his strong frame to defend on the other end. Not to mention, it was not too long ago before he was starting for the Wizards.

The Spurs could certainly use another Center, and Gortat fits that mold perfectly. The Spurs should definitely consider offering him a short term contract to help the team as soon as possible.
